Field Day is a nationwide event held
annually on the fourth weekend in June (26 & 27) and it's sponsored by the ARRL
(American
Radio Relay League). The main objective of participating in this annual event is emergency
communication preparedness in the field, for 24 hours continuous.
Other areas that we address are public awareness
and contesting. TARA's mission is to accomplish these goals while
having the most fun, food and fellowship with family and friends as is humanly
possible! Amateurs prove their readiness for
a real emergency by setting up and operating all manner of radio equipment
for a 24 hour period without the use of commercial electricity. The public is invited to learn what
we are all about and may even operate the radios! HAMs are encouraged
to operate and contest on all bands. TARA will be holding Field Day 2004 at
Troy's Frear Park, over by the tennis courts (see
map below) and
you are invited! If you can't make it over to our event, find out where you
can participate in your community, or even operate from home! Get involved and support your local club. If you'd like
to volunteer your services, or if you'd like additional information -- please contact one of
the names listed below. We need your support! Joel Glickman, KA1PRT, has a nice collection of pictures
from Field Day - 2003, to view them. |
