Field Day is a nationwide emergency communications preparedness drill held annually on the fourth week end of June. This year's Field Day will be held on June 23rd & 24th. Field Day is sponsored by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). The ARRL is a nationwide organization of amateur radio operators.

Power Distribution PanelField Day's main focus is emergency communications preparedness. Amateur radio clubs across the country, including TARA, sponsor a field day site which conducts communications under simulated emergency conditions. Amateur operators prove their readiness for a genuine emergency by operating without the benefit of any commercial power source.

Stu, K2ESG and Charlie, KC2VZWWhile emergency communications is the main focus of Field Day, amateur operators also seize the opportunity Field Day presents to inform the public about the many benefits offered by the amateur radio hobby, including public service communications and educational programs. And of course, the TARA Field Day site offers lots of good conversation and good food!

The public is invited to TARA Field Day site which this year will be at Frear Park in Troy, next to the tennis courts. If you can't make it to our site, find out where you can participate in your community! Get involved and support your local club!

TARA will once again be having it's Field Day BBQ on Saturday - June 23. This year's menu has been expanded and you can choose either the Succulent Pig Roast, Seasoned Prime Rib of Beef or you can have a Charbroiled NYS Strip Siloin, all which includes the "All you Can Eat" afternoon buffet. There is a charge for this of course and you can join us for this special BBQ by notifying Bill Eddy, NY2U immediately. All orders must be made prior to June 10th.

After last year's Field Day all the QSO's were counted and filed with the ARRL. TARA made some 1,396 QSO's under the call of N2TY, for a total of 4,162 in the ENY section (Eastern New York). Results can be found in the December 2006 issue of QST, page 82.
