Hamfest '97 Sales
Earns Club Profits

Once again Bill St.Jean, N2YNP, and the "can do crew" have turned in some pretty impressive financial reports from the recent Ballston Spa Hamfest, held back on September 13.

Bill reported to the membership at the September monthly meeting that sales were quite brisk at the hamfest this year for both the ARRL Publications and raffle tickets. Bill was also quick to acknowledge the large work force that turned out in support of this event. "This by far was our largest team effort to date for the bookstore. We had volunteers who started showing up at the crack of dawn and stayed until everything was boxed up later in the afternoon," explained N2YNP. All of the books have been inventoried and the unsold portion has been returned to the ARRL for credit. As soon as we receive the final check from the ARRL we'll be able to give you a more detailed report.

This year the sale of raffle tickets was up quite a bit over other years. Bill explained to the membership that it greatly helped out by having the tickets available early in the summer months. Plus the amount of tickets sold by members/friends prior to the hamfest was significantly up over years past.

The drawing for the prizes took place at approximately 2:00 PM on the day of the hamfest. Congratulations to everyone for an outstanding job! The following names were drawn as winners and they've been notified:

1st Prize....................................................................$300.00

TARA and NWS Team Up In October

On October 21, TARA will be joining our friends from the NWS Headquarters (National Weather Serivce) for a SKYWARN Certification Class and tour of their new ultra modern headquarters. This will be our first opportunity to tour this new facility on Fuller Road and it should be a most interesting evening.

We encourage our members to arrive early. Doors will open at around 6:30 PM and the formal presentation will begin at 7:00 PM sharp! Those who attend will be given credit towards their SKYWARN certification which needs to be renewed every 2 years. Please keep in mind that many of our members need this class to stay certified as an official SKYWARN weather watcher.

Those who need directions should start listening to the TARA repeaters starting around 5:30 PM for the talk-in. Please mark you calender now!

WK6R Packs Hall

On September 16, Dr.Richard Sandell, WK6R, made his return trip to TARA and spoke before a capactity filled hall. Richard's topic of discussion centered around the developement of the ARRL's Hudson Division Loop. The Loop is a bi-weekly electronic newsletter packed with late breaking news about our hobby and the Hudson Division. Richard, publisher of this newsletter, quickly praised the efforts of Stephan Anderman, WA3RKB, for his contributions to the Loop. Also he spoke of the posibilities of the Loop going national. Later Richard fielded questions from the floor. This marks the third time now Richard has been able to fill the meeting hall. Thanks again Richard!.
